Paddle into the sea caves, arches and golden grottos hidden along the coast between Barranco, Ingrina and Zavial.
The stretch of coast between Barranco, Ingrina and Zavial is riddled with small sea caves, arches and undercut headlands, and almost nobody sees them. There is no boat traffic here, no queue, and no ticketed viewing platform — just a paddleboard drawing a few centimetres of water, going through the low arches and into the narrow grottos where the sound of your own paddle comes back off the walls.
You paddle roughly 4 to 5 kilometres over three hours, but almost none of it in a straight line. The route threads along the limestone headlands and back into the coves, weaving in and out of the caves as the swell allows. Your guide reads the water on the morning of the tour and picks which beach we launch from and the order of the caves accordingly — on a flat day you can enter almost all of them, on a bigger day we work the sheltered eastern side.
The light is the thing people remember. Mid-morning sun comes through the arches and reflects off the sand below, and the water inside the caves turns a colour that looks unedited in photos but genuinely is not. Your guide carries a waterproof camera and sends you the gallery afterwards, free.

Beach briefing
Kit fitting, then technique on the sand: stance, paddle stroke, turning, and how to fall off and get back on without drama. Complete beginners are the norm here, not the exception.

Out to the headland
A steady paddle along the cliff line to warm up and find your balance in protected water before we reach the caves.

The cave system
Working through the arches, grottos and undercut headlands along this stretch, with plenty of stops for photos and for your guide to explain how the limestone formed and why it is still moving.

Swim and cliff stop
Boards beached on a hidden cove. Swim, snorkel, or just sit — most groups do not want to leave.

Paddle back
Return along the coast with the sun behind you, then kit off and cold water at the van.

Good Feeling Surf School, Vila do Bispo
Every tour meets at Good Feeling Surf School in Vila do Bispo, where there is free parking, toilets and somewhere to leave your things. From there we drive the short distance to whichever beach the conditions favour that morning — Barranco, Ingrina or Zavial. The exact time and a Google Maps pin come with your booking confirmation. Pick-up and drop-off anywhere between Sagres and Lagos is €5 per person.

What to bring
- Swimwear worn under your clothes

Good to know
- You need to be able to swim around 25 metres unaided.
- Which caves we enter depends entirely on the swell that morning. On a big day some are unsafe and we will not enter them — the trade-off is that the coastline is more dramatic.
- This coast stays quiet even in August, but we still run mornings: the wind fills in from the north-west most afternoons and flattens the fun.
